THE IMAGE OF THE OTHER IN NORDIC TRAVELOGUES OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE 20TH CENTU RY - SAKARI PÄLSI: BOSNA PONOSNA
Abstract
This paper deals with the image of the Other in travelogue Bosna ponosna, by the Finnish author Sakari Pälsi. The paper aims to question notions of a foreign culture that are shaped by individuals or certain groups, and which are based on cultural stereotypes. The paper aims to pay attention on how the Image of the Other functions in the text, that is, to extract and interpret the stereotypes found in the text. The paper points out the conditions and ways of creating these stereotypes and the ways in which they are represented in literature, but also in the socio-historical context.
